Starr Tucker-Ortega

Born in Syracuse, NY / Works in New York
BIO
Starr moved to Denver five years ago from New Jersey. Her work has been in numerous shows throughout NY and NJ. Her work was chosen for several juried shows including the Jersey City Museum “Frames of Mind”, the Seventh and the Ninth National Juried Exhibition Ceres Gallery, N.Y.C. She’s received Honorable Mentions by juror Lowery Sims, Curator, Museum of Arts and Design, NYC and by Lorenzo Chavez, curator for All Colorado at the Depot show in Littleton, CO.
I began graduate school as a painter but became enthralled with photography. I explored photograms and was drawn to how one could literally paint with light directly. My works include tonal qualities, texture, and layers that mimic a painterly process. The landscape of Colorado has profoundly moved me. Clouds on fire, bright blue technicolor skies, and strong negative space compositions. The water imagery, cloud, and fire images seem to be a visual juxtaposition of my East and West Coast selves.
