"Mahr’s work examines the coexistence and tension between our analytical and emotive experiences of the world through the use of geometric forms and ephemeral surfaces. Flat shape and atmospheric space establish spatial tension, pushing the viewer in and out of the drawing. Drawn and sanded-down chalkboard surfaces create a dense fog that is interrupted by slivers of white lines and jarring empty shapes. The work in the Erasure series reflects a moment of change, loss of self, reinvention, and growth for the artist, mirroring the atemporal qualities of memory and early motherhood."
