Darryl Cera is a New York-based artist whose work spans painting, collage, assemblage, and wall sculpture. For more than five decades he has explored the intersection of observation, memory, landscape, architecture, and the human condition through both representational and abstract imagery.
Originally from Rochester, New York, Cera began painting while studying anatomy in chiropractic college. The discipline of drawing from direct observation fostered a lifelong commitment to visual inquiry and craftsmanship. His paintings are executed primarily in oil on linen, often on hand-stretched canvases prepared using traditional methods. Alongside painting, he has developed an extensive body of assemblage and collage work utilizing found and fabricated materials.
Working in painting, collage, assemblage, and wall sculpture, Cera has pursued a highly individual artistic vision that resists easy stylistic classification. His practice draws upon direct observation, memory, landscape, architecture, and the human figure, while remaining open to abstraction and experimentation.
Over the course of five decades, he has maintained a serious commitment to art making alongside a professional healthcare career, producing a substantial and diverse body of work.
