An original abstract artwork by Saskia Fleishman. Saskia graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 with a BFA in painting and based in Brooklyn, New York. Her body of work, including both painting a ceramic sculpture, is inspired by landscape photographs taken on recent trips and images sourced from her family’s collection taken around the tidewater Chesapeake Bay area.

    Yellow Sideways Slash

Unlike the rest of her current body of works, which feature large sweeping gradients under most of the composition, this piece is one of studies and landscapes that break up Saskia’s gradients into smaller planes. Yellow Sideways Slash maintains the most recognizable elements in a landscape, although we notice a geometric rhythm between tiers of the road, ground, and grassy patch as well as the yellow mark on the very front with the seductive egg-yolk yellow just starting to spread across the sky.

Is there something prophetic about Saskia Fleishman's name? Because...pardon us for the terrible pun but her landscapes are fully fleshy. In a twist of fate, fluid and ethereal things like cloud or waves of the sea have been built up with sand, while backgrounds of striking techicolor recede away from the material world.
