[From the artist] “Washed Up/Out (#11)” started with the desire to work with the colors of oxidized metals- rust of iron and oxidation of copper. I wanted to lose these colors and their intensity under a white-washed foreground and play with the ability to tell what order the colors and layers were laid down in. This is definitely a painting I wish I could recreate now and have attempted and failed to do in the years since. It reminds me of the sun-washed white out of the bright tropical sun.

Kimmy Quilin with her choppy bob haircut and a living room shrouded in warm clay colors, could be her own indie movie heroine. Underlying Kimmy’s study of colors and forms, whether in expressionistic strokes or recent minimalism, is a love and attention to things around her.
