In this Untitled work the newspaper as a medium, makes the viewer want to wipe off the paint to reveal what is underneath it. Through the use of this medium Meillier explores how communication (or miscommunication) occurs during the "Information Age."
Josh Meillier's work is the soothing sound of nails on chalkboard. The blackboard imagery relates to education revolution caused by the Internet. Indeed, the icy cold palette and industrial texture - of steel, aluminum, or concrete - add to the uncertainty if what the viewer is seeing is an illusion floating in that manmade space or some familiar reality. In this case, receiving mixed signals is a good thing.
