[From the artist] Part of a series of three paintings playfully depicting a surfboard in a triptych. This is the fin or “fin” (in French meaning “the end”). I have a deep obsession with summer and spending time in the ocean, but often my time at the ocean is usurped by wanting to stay home to paint. What better compromise than a surfboard made of paintings?

Part of a series of three paintings playfully depicting a surfboard in triptych. This is the fin or “fin” (in French meaning “the end”). In the summertime, Kimmy often has a hard time balancing her love of the ocean with a need to stay home and paint. As a sort of compromise, she produced a surfboard made of paintings.

Kimmy Quilin with her choppy bob haircut and a living room shrouded in warm clay colors, could be her own indie movie heroine. Underlying Kimmy’s study of colors and forms, whether in expressionistic strokes or recent minimalism, is a love and attention to things around her.
