Anna Ortiz’s pastel landscapes feature soft forms and faces built into the rocky outcroppings. In this work, the harshness of stone is softened by fanciful carvings and the rugged landscape is turned dreamlike by the pastel pallate. Anna’s oil on panel work tells a story of civilization and collapse through an otherworldly lens.

The work comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.

We offer $50 shipping in the continental U.S. and $20 installation service in the NYC metro area. Return shipping is also $50, but waived if you rent for 6 months or longer. Just shoot us an email and we'll help you safely return the artworks.

Your monthly rental payments accumulate and get deducted from the purchase price if you decide to buy the work.

    Anna Ortiz

    Anna Ortiz

Born in MA / Works in Brooklyn, NY

Many people confess to a feeling of awe at seeing remnants of old civilizations. But oh wait, Anna's paintings in neon and pastel wash don't just focus on the time that landmarks endured, but the original fantasy they must have inspired. Namely, these sculptures submerge into the ground as if they've grown out of it, echoing the Olmec and Aztec beliefs that rocks and other landmarks are already animate. Their gravity doesn't come from the fact that they represent higher spirits, but that they are converging points for human and nature - and for painting, representation and our "reading into" it?
