BIO
Ann Tarantino is an artist exploring the nuances of modern landscapes. Her paintings tell stories of different places and explore the relationship of landscape to time, space, and movement. Her work has been exhibited widely in the United States and abroad, with public art installations appearing in various settings including museums and galleries, botanical gardens, and city streets. A New England native, Tarantino spent her formative years near the ocean – a constant that continues to inform her experiences of the landscape and the form of her work.
My work explores the intersection of the natural world with the built environment, combining shapes, colors, and forms from each to create new environments. Frequently, I laser-etch the surfaces of my paintings with line drawings that resemble topography or other landscape data prior to painting. This etched layer becomes a building block in conversation with the shapes and forms laid atop it. Together, the two combine to make intricate compositions that explore the patterns and imprints we leave upon the earth.
