BIO
In my Remnant series, I am using a soft muted palette and a minimal vocabulary. These paintings are shrines to paint and pattern. they are the fragments of something left behind and in some paintings, the smoldering remains of ashes. In my grid series, I create grids that have a certain order and structure through line, color and pattern, however it is the impulsive and intuitive side of me that needs to break this order down to reestablish the turmoil and discord that is inherent in nature. In all my finished paintings, there is always the element of surprise. I never quite know what the painting will look when it is done and the end result is often a dance between my sense of order and the my impulse to let go and explore.
You'll like Amy if: you believe that the journey is the destination
I am an abstract painter working primarily in Encaustic. My process is intuitive and direct and I build my paintings by adding many layers of pigmented wax. My method of adding and subtracting layers of paint creates a kind of mystery of things hidden and things found. I am interested in what happens when patterns, colors and marks are glimpsed beneath the surface, creating a window to peer through.
