“No. 9 (#8)” screams the number nine to me with its gold and sage circle in the top left. This is also one of my favored Beatles songs (“Revolution 9”) from the White Album, a nearly-nonsensical “sound collage” that rotates on and on for nearly nine minutes. That chaos of a song being released on the biggest band’s studio album is a huge indicator of how incredibly committed to retaining their artistic integrity despite their nearly unparalleled success.

Works in Brooklyn
Kimmy Quilin with her choppy bob haircut and a living room shrouded in warm clay colors, could be her own indie movie heroine. Underlying Kimmy’s study of colors and forms, whether in expressionistic strokes or recent minimalism, is a love and attention to things around her. You'll love Kimmy if you: appreciate diners in the city for their neon tubes and retro leather booths despite their terrible service.
